STATE OF THE MARKET:
There is always temp work, it is just a matter of finding out what agency has it, there are more than 1,000 temp agencies in NYC (and this does not even include consulting firms and outsourcing firms).
Right now, legal remains strong along with help desk and network administration (especially at law firms). The outsourcers like Pitney Bowes and Bowne are always looking for people. If temp agencies are calling ME with work there has to be a lot of work out there for you.

Until someone tells me otherwise, it looks like Legal Word Processing Centers is still where most of the action is. Note above that Bowne is looking for Legal Word Processors. Haven’t seen any advertising from Pitney Bowes lately, so maybe their little endeavor at Proskauer Rose is NOT getting bigger
If you want to get temp work right now, you will need to morph into an experienced law firm wp operator. You will need to have a resume that has a lot of law firm word processing center experience on it and you will need to be able to pass the law firms’ tests for word processors. Mostly, the law firms have tests that require that you know automatic table of contents, automatic tables of authorities and automatic numbering. Law firms use Deltaview and Comparerite to compare one version of a document to another and almost every law firms has a document management system like Docs Open. Historically, not a lot of law firms have used Excel and Powerpoint, but that is changing now. Having Excel and Powerpoint on your resume will help because most of the law firms existing staff probably don’t know these packages. I have not seen a strong demand for EGAR people, but there are law firms that have an EGAR staff

The training available from unemployment is just incredible. I know of someone who got into a training program who is NOT unemployed, this just shows how much opportunity there is out there to get training and do other things

The agencies advertising for temps now are more or less the same agencies as I reported in September.
Agencies like Wall Street Services, Buckley, Vanguard, Pyramid etc, which have advertised in Back Stage have ads in Back Stage once again.
The Tuttle Agency which has advertised in NY Press and other newspapers, had a big ad on the front page of the NY Times some weeks ago.
I haven't done any scientific investigations, but it seems to me that there has been a pick-up in agencies calling me with work in the last two weeks.

STATE OF THE MARKET: There is always temp work, it is just a matter of finding out what agency has it. Right now, legal remains strong along with help desk and network administration (especially at law firms). The outsourcers like Pitney Bowes and Bowne are always looking for people.
MORPH OF THE WEEK: If you want to get temp work right now, you will need to morph into an experienced law firm wp operator. You will need to have a resume that has a lot of law firm word processing center experience on it and you will need to be able to pass the law firms’ tests for word processors. Mostly, the law firms have tests that require that you know automatic table of contents, automatic tables of authorities and automatic numbering. Law firms use Delataview and Comparerite to compare one version of a document to another and almost every law firms has a document management system like Docs Open. Historically, not a lot of law firms have used Excel and Powerpoint, but that is changing now. Having Excel and Powerpoint on your resume will help because most of the law firms existing staff probably don’t know these packages. I have not seen a strong demand for EGAR people, but there are law firms that have an EGAR staff

Haven’t seen any advertising from Pitney Bowes lately, so maybe their little endeavor at Proskauer Rose is NOT getting bigger
If you want to get temp work right now, you will need to morph into an experienced law firm wp operator. You will need to have a resume that has a lot of law firm word processing center experience on it and you will need to be able to pass the law firms’ tests for word processors. Mostly, the law firms have tests that require that you know automatic table of contents, automatic tables of authorities and automatic numbering. Law firms use Deltaview and Comparerite to compare one version of a document to another and almost every law firms has a document management system like Docs Open. Historically, not a lot of law firms have used Excel and Powerpoint, but that is changing now. Having Excel and Powerpoint on your resume will help because most of the law firms existing staff probably don’t know these packages. I have not seen a strong demand for EGAR people, but there are law firms that have an EGAR staff

STATE OF THE MARKET: (SAME AS LAST WEEK)
There is always temp work, it is just a matter of finding out what agency has it. Right now, legal remains strong along with help desk and network administration (especially at law firms). The outsourcers like Pitney Bowes and Bowne are always looking for people.
MORPH OF THE WEEK: (SAME AS LAST WEEK).
If you want to get temp work right now, you will need to morph into an experienced law firm wp operator. You will need to have a resume that has a lot of law firm word processing center experience on it and you will need to be able to pass the law firms’ tests for word processors. Mostly, the law firms have tests that require that you know automatic table of contents, automatic tables of authorities and automatic numbering. Law firms use Delataview and Comparerite to compare one version of a document to another and almost every law firms has a document management system like Docs Open. Historically, not a lot of law firms have used Excel and Powerpoint, but that is changing now. Having Excel and Powerpoint on your resume will help because most of the law firms existing staff probably don’t know these packages. I have not seen a strong demand for EGAR people, but there are law firms that have an EGAR staff

STATE OF THE MARKET:
Currently, the Temp Agencies that are buying classified ad space in NYC papers appear to be the same agencies week after week. We will therefore make our "Desperately Seeking Temps" Report "Monthly", until there is some substantial change is what Agencies are advertising for temps.
We suggest that you use the "keyword search" feature at the bottom of our interactive directories to search for temp agencies. You can search by any keyword, either by field or industry. For example, you can search for "help desk" to find agencies which have in the past indicated that they get requests for temps who can do help desk, or you can (for example) search on the keyword "legal" for temp agencies which have indicated that they specialize in supplying temps to law firms.
Just remember, there is always temp work, it is just a matter of finding out what agencies have the work. There are more than 1,000 temp agencies in NYC (and this does not even include consulting firms and outsourcing firms).
